Set up this computer
Keep your Passport and completed lessons. Prepare the computer you are using now, then continue your remaining lessons.
1. Bring back your existing Passport
Install the launcher on this computer and use the same GitHub account as before. The change-computer guide explains gh passport resume, including returning to a computer you used earlier. Resume downloads submitted work and reads official results without creating another learning record.
Draft answers and files you have not submitted remain on the original computer. They are not automatically synchronized. Keep that work safe; do not copy passwords, private SSH keys, or an old Python environment to this computer.
2. Use this computer's terminal
Optional refresher for a new operating system
If it is new to you, follow the terminal and file-navigation introduction. A terminal is the application for commands; a shell reads them. A path identifies a file or folder. The computer named above is where the local command blocks run.
New to Linux?
Open Terminal from the applications menu in a separate window from the running Passport. The Linux lesson commands use Bash. If your terminal uses another shell, run bash for this session; this does not change your login configuration.
Try the harmless pwd command: it prints your current folder. ls lists its visible entries; cd changes folder. Names are case-sensitive on the usual Linux filesystems, so preserve the spelling shown in the Passport. A path containing spaces needs quotes.
Use the exact enter-folder command shown after Prepare practice folder. Do not reuse a Mac path. Before accepting an agent's command, identify its machine, shell, folder and expected result yourself.
Continue to the setup checks below. The refresher does not change your grades.
3. Check the tools you need here
Only setup lessons in your assigned route are shown. Follow their existing instructions and select Check this computer. You can revisit a completed setup lesson here without answering its questions again or submitting it. A local setup result does not mark a lesson complete or unlock the next lesson.
- Create A Recoverable Project Handover
- Establish Safe Euler SSH Access
- Configure Git Identity And GitHub Access
- Create A Reproducible Python Environment
Your current route has no Git, Python or Euler SSH setup lessons to recheck.
For Python, keep a working environment on this computer or create it here from the existing definition. Select this computer's verified interpreter in your editor. Reinstall an editor extension only if it is missing.
For Euler, follow the SSH lesson from this computer. Keep any working local key; if there is none, follow the guarded creation steps. Private keys stay on their original computer. The setup button inspects local configuration only: also complete the lesson's final key-only login test. This setup route submits no jobs.
4. Continue your course
Return to progress and refresh official results. Work from one computer at a time. When returning to the other computer, close its old Passport session and resume again to retrieve submitted changes. If Git reports a conflict, keep both copies and request help; do not reset or force-push.
If a check fails, follow its named recovery step. For an unresolved problem, use safe recovery. Share only the launcher version, operating system, lesson and sanitized error; never send credentials, private paths or private logs.
